Tamil Nadu Hosts 7th Senior & 4th Junior State-Level Para-Powerlifting Championship in Madurai
Madurai, February 25 — The Tamil Nadu Para-Olympic Sports Association, recognized by the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority, successfully conducted the 7th Senior and 4th Junior State-Level Para-Powerlifting Championship for the Differently-Abled at the historic Gandhi Museum in Madurai today.
The event witnessed a remarkable turnout, with over 130 differently-abled athletes from 22+ districts across Tamil Nadu, including Madurai, Chennai, Kanyakumari, Dindigul, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Cuddalore, Kallakurichi, Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Trichy, and Virudhunagar. Competitions were held in various body weight categories, with medals awarded to the top three lifters in each category.
The event was inaugurated by Theni Anandam Director Selvarajan and Disabled Association President Bhupathi. The competition serves as a qualifying platform for the upcoming National Para-Powerlifting Championship, scheduled to be held in Noida, Uttar Pradesh on March 16–18.
A host of dignitaries graced the prize distribution ceremony, including Anandham Manavalan, High Court Advocate Samidurai, Thenpulam Trust Trustee Madhan, Zone Senior Manager Velmurugan, District Sports Officer Raja, Sports Hostel Manager Murugan, and Young Netaji Swaminathan. Their presence added motivation and encouragement for the athletes.
The event was conducted under the supervision of authorized referees Anandakumar and Rupesh, with Chief coach Vijay Sarathi serving as the Technical Director. Coordination was handled by DhyanChandh Awardee Ranjith Kumar and coach Kumaresan also played vital roles in the successful execution of the championship.
This championship not only celebrated the strength and determination of para athletes but also underlined Tamil Nadu’s growing stature as a hub for inclusive sports.
